Are you dreaming positive stories of the new earth to seed for the future? How is your resilience?
True story: August 8, 1992, while my mother was sick and not long for the world and my life was in upheaval for a good couple of years, I bought a slim book that 28 years later I call my bible. I don’t know why I saved the receipt with the date. Something inside that I could not see told me to keep it so I scotch taped the receipt inside the cover. It’s not a religious book but maybe it should be. It’s my kind of religion. It’s called Thinking Like a Mountain: Towards A Council of All beings by John Seed, Joanna Macy, Pat Fleming & Arne Naess. 118 pages. It’s a book on deep ecology, ecophilosophy and the ecological self that calls for us humans to take ourselves off of the high horse we think we are on where we put ourselves on a pedestal above all other species. End the anthropocentrism for god’s sake. We are interconnected with all life on the planet. As Thich Nat Hahn says: “There’s a revolution that needs to happen and it starts from inside each one of us. We need to wake up and fall in love with the Earth. Our personal and collective happiness and survival depends on it.”
Back then, in 1992, the book was a gift, a seed planted from the future. A catalyst that over the subsequent years, inspired me to base writing groups on its philosophy, devote my master’s thesis to it and fuel five years of teaching ecopsychology at the undergraduate level. It is work for these times.
I am thrilled to be joining with CoreLight in offering a 6 week, 7 session online class based on this philosophy, where we deeply engage with the intelligence in nature, cultivate our ecological selves and seed new positive stories for the future world starting Feb 1. We need new positive stories to seed for the future. We are drowning in dystopian visions, both real and imagined these days.
You are invited! Strengthen your resilience, engage your ecological self through nature and art practices (no art experience necessary!) and join us in holding the vision of a new regenerative earth culture for our children and children’s children… See full brochure and registration link here…
